Kick ass shows you should go to.. plus.. I'll be there!

So within this next month, I’m going to a bunch of shows… and to say the least, I’m pumped. Tonight, I will be going to the Static X show at Irving Plaza, potentially V.I.P style. I will be going with Kiwi and C-Moore Evil, plus a few other friends. I’m really digging Static X’s new album, so I’m really excited to see it with live energy tonight.

Then on August 3rd, I will have a complete change of pace when I go to Madison Square Garden to see Depeche Mode. That’s right… I love my 80’s music… and I’ll be going with my parents! Haha. I can’t wait to go. I actually am not all that impressed with their new album, but as long as they play some of the old hits I will be completely satisfied… namely People are People.. my fave hit!

A mere 4 days later, I will be going to the Incubus concert with Kiwi at PNC. I actually won us tickets by going to a WDHA event at a bar in Morristown, which was hosted by C-Moore Evil. We will be somewhere in the 300’s.. I believe is was 305. I’ve heard Incubus isn’t necessarily great live, since they tend to play new, slower stuff. But I’m still excited to go and see for myself.

After that I get a break for a week or two. On August 20th, I begin my week stay in NYC. The 20th will be spent at the Upright Citizens Brigade to see the stand-up comics act with the YouTube sensation, Picnicface. It should be a ton of fun and if you’re around, come along! Kiwi will be with me, and hopefully Miss Machine as well.

Then, I will be starting my first day of my second NIN fest this summer! On the 22nd and 23rd I will be seeing NIN with my journalist friend and fellow NIN lover, Dave. We had met back when With Teeth was first released at a listening party in NYC. We’ve stayed in touch and he will be flying to NYC for the NIN shows, and since I failed to get tickets for the Webster Hall and Bowery Ballroom shows, he invited me to come along because he’s the greatest! Then I’ll have a day break, and on the 25th will be attending the Terminal 5 NIN show with Kiwi and Michael Sossi, my NIN buddy. I am not quite sure if I am going to get tickets for the 26th show as well, but if I do, C-Moore Evil will be coming with me. Do you think I can handle a 4 day NIN fest?

So that, my friends, is my collection of concerts for the next month. Soon after that I should be going back to school, so long as I can get the loan.. and then back to work I go. But damn, what a great end to a great summer this will be.

So if anyone will be going to any of these shows, let me know! Or just come up and say hello. I don’t bite. ;-)

Amazing Shayfer James show I went to

On Friday night, Miss Machine and I met up at Penn Station and adventured out to Brooklyn to attend a very much anticipated Shayfer James show. We arrived at a nice little club with lots of character called Goodbye Blue Monday. First, a band from London came on and were surprisingly very entertaining. Their drums were near smashed to pieces but they still sounded great and had a lot of energy.

At about 11, Shayfer James took the stage and truly BLEW US AWAY. We both expected a good show, but this far exceeded our expectations.

They opened with Tombstone Road, my personal favorite, with a break in the middle of the song where Shayfer certainly showed his sinister side, bringing the spookiest of sounds out of his piano and singing in a deep and haunting tone. He also played one of his new songs about the Jonestown Massacre, which was equally as haunting. I will have a video clip of the songs posted at the end of the blog if you'd like to catch a peak.

In addition to the dark and sinister side of Shayfer James, we got to see the poetic and sweet side as well. Of course, Carve a Smile was very enjoyable to see live and really pulls you into the lyrics of the song. But, in my opinion, the most memorable part of the night was when Shayfer played a new song alone on the stage. It was possibly the sweetest and most heart wrenching song I've ever heard, and it even brought a tear to my eye. Even the deepest and darkest Nine Inch Nails songs haven't caused me to shed a tear, but this song was truly extrodinary with its poetic lyrics and composition. I cannot wait for him to release it so that I can share it with you all.

All in all, it was well worth the trip and I am excited to see more shows in the future, and I urge you all to come join! It's a really great mix of feelings; from upbeat music you can shake your jazz hands to, to deep and dark stories that paint a vivid picture in your mind as you listen, to hopelessly sweet, poetic, heart wrenching songs that just make you want to curl up with the person next to you!

If you'd like to hear some of his music, there is a song on my playlist, or you can visit his myspace at myspace.com/shayferjames

Let the DEVASTATION begin!!!

Sooooo this Tuesday, the 21st, a new album hits the stores...
Cycle of Pain! And to kick off the new album, COP will start their tour with Black Label Society, Dope & Sevendust, also starting on the 21st.

If you like BLS, you will def love COP. So give it a shot, check it out, and you'll be head banging in no time. I'm pumped for the shows. I'm actually surprised for once I actually like the entire lineup... usually there's at least one band I could care less about, but I'm excited about all the bands in this set. And they are touring all over so even if you aren't from around here, def check out the tour dates and grab some tickets for a kick ass show.

Lots of new stuff going on!!

So there's been a lot going on these past couple weeks and I haven't been updating!

First off, to update from my last couple entries:

I did, in fact, get NIN tickets! I'm going to 2 shows this June... 2 nights in a row!
Kiwi will be joining me for the first night of rock at PNC on June 6th, and then on June 7th I will be at Jones Beach with my good friend and NIN fanatic, Michael! I can't wait to rock out, dance, sing, and go crazy!

I also got my school schedule for next year and it RULES! I got into every class I wanted which has NEVER happened so I'm really excited. Fall semester I have class 3 days a week, and spring semester I'll only have class 2 days a week! Woo! Can't beat that. I'm really excited for next year to work on my music promotion/design portfolio and find a band to represent for the year.

So now onto new stuff.
Today I added some shows to my calendar for Patrick Droney. Obviously I can't make it to all of them, but I wanted to post them all for anyone that might be interested in other areas. He's really talented and totally worth checking out, so if you are free one of those nights, go have some fun and catch a show with a musician that I believe is going to climb up to the top.

If you want to check out some more new music, I've recently come across this awesome, really interesting new stuff. The artist goes by the name Shayfer James. The music has this real carnival feel to it.. very Tim Burton/Nightmare Brefore Christmas type stuff and it's so fun to listen to. Initially you get a really peppy feel from the music, and eventually you start to get into the lyrics and its really good stuff. I'm going to stop rambling and just tell you to go check it out now!

Me, Miss Machine & Kiwi are planning to hit up some of the shows, so come join us and have some fun!

And last but not least of the big updates...
Miss Machine, Kiwi, Jamie Jasta and I have started a new group called PDA4 [Public Display of Affection 4]. We started it because we want to change the world for the better, so we're taking it one small step at a time! It's our volunteer/charity group and we plan to organize a lot of events and interesting projects, and we would love to get as many people involved as possible! We just want to make people smile because that is what is important in this life... not getting rich and buying as much crap as you can possibly fit in your house! So come check out our new
PDA4 Page!

So I think that is a pretty decent update! I can't wait to get all these projects going and get a lot of awesome stuff done this summer! I hope you all can get involved with us and have some fun! 3 more weeks!
